LE (9) BIS est un espace de création contemporaine destiné à présenter au plus large public un certain regard sur l’art contemporain par un vaste programme d’expositions d’artistes internationaux. Laboratoire d’expérimentation, atelier, LE (9) BIS propose de nouvelles productions et des projets inédits à travers une pluralité de media : sculpture, peinture, installation, vidéo, photographie, dessin. LE (9) BIS a été fondé en 1998 par les artistes Assan Smati et Damien Deroubaix dans un esprit commun d’encourager l’innovation, l’expérimentation et les possibles dans l’art. Basé sur une initiative privée, le lieu est soutenu par la Ville de Saint-Etienne, la Région Rhône-Alpes et le Ministère de la Culture et ouvert aux fonds privés. Le lieu attire les professionnels de l’art, artistes, écrivains, critiques, curateurs, collectionneurs, enseignants et étudiants ainsi que le plus large public. Des visites individuelles et de groupes peuvent être organisées sur rendez-vous.








LE (9) BIS is a not-for-profit exhibition space devoted to promoting contemporary art for the benefit of the public. The core activity of LE (9) BIS is an outstanding exhibition programme which shows innovative and thought-provoking work by international contemporary artists. The space mounts six to eight exhibitions a year in a variety of media: sculpture, painting, installation, video and photography, drawing. LE (9) BIS was started in 1998 by artists Assan Smati and Damien Deroubaix in a spirit of community, hoping to assist and encourage innovation, experimentation and potential in the arts. This a privately funded space supported by the City Council of Saint-Etienne, the Region Rhône-Alpes and the Ministry of Culture, with the possibility of additional future funding coming from the public and private sectors. It attracts a wide audience of art professionals, artists, writers, critics, curators, collectors, lecturers, teachers, students, and the general public. Group and class visits can be arranged by appointment.
